Congratulations to the Phillips Students selected to perform with the DMPS All District Honor Choir.

Thank you to Congressman David Young for visiting Phillips Traditional School. His visit was at the invitation of Phillips parent/Goodrell teacher/NEA representative Joshua Brown. DMPS will again offer breakfast and lunch over the summer months to children 18 and younger. The number of sites has grown, and so have the number of meals served. Last summer, DMPS staff fed children 28,722 breakfasts and 79,698 lunches. DMPS has sponsored a summer meal program for more than 30 years. In spite of the debate about when the school year should start, at DMPS we wonder: when does it end? That’s because activities take place at our schools nearly every day of the year. We’re excited to announce we’re beginning to accept preschool applications for the 2015-2016 school year. Head Start applications are being accepted now and Universal Preschool applications will be accepted beginning March 11. To find out more, click on the image.

The first day of Kindergarten 2015-2016 will be here before you know it! It’s an exciting time for staff and students, but it all starts with registration. Sign-up begins on March 11. On Monday, March 2nd Phillips students celebrated Dr. Seuss birthday by reading, making Cat in the Hat hats and eating decorated cookies for this special day. The Cat in the Hat visited Mrs. Flomo’s kindergarten class to read Dr. Seuss books with students.

2nd grade students celebrated the Chinese New Year on Friday, Feb. 20th with a parade and wearing the hats they made. They enjoyed eating Chinese food in the cafeteria after the parade.

Kindergarten Registration will be on March 11th from 3:00 to 7:30 pm. Kindergarten sign up is important to ensure that your child can attend their neighborhood school. Please bring: Birth Certificate, Immunization Record, Parent Photo I.D. with 2 proofs of address. Child must be 5 years old on or by Sept. 15, 2015. Call 242-7725 with any questions.

Starting Wed., Feb. 18th Phillips student’s will be collecting coins for our Coin Drive for the Animal Rescue League. You can help by donating your pennies, nickles, dimes, and quarter. Our goal is to reach $1,500.00. The Coin Drive will end on Wed., March 4th. Please consider donating for the Animal Rescue League.
