I have worked for DMPS for 27 years. I have been at Phillips 2 different times. First 1988 – 1995 as first assistant and returned in 2000 as Chief Engineer. I am married and have five children. I am a car enthusiast and enjoy car shows. I also enjoy the show American Pickers.
I love that as the school counselor, no two days are ever alike! I have the opportunity to work with students in the classroom setting, in small groups, as well as individually. I also love getting to interact with parents on a regular basis, too. Please stop by and say “Hello” my door is always open!
Hello, my name is Teresa Foley. I have been a special education associate for 15 years. I have been married for 33 years, we have 2 sons, 1 daughter-in-law and 1 grandson. I enjoy doing crafts, reading, and spending time with my family.
This is my 19th year teaching English Language Learners, and my fourth year at Phillips. Most of those other years I was teaching ELL in foreign countries, such as Honduras, Colombia, Paraguay and China. I have also lived in England and Spain and traveled through over 50 countries. I was also a classroom teacher for many years, and I have taught many grades – kindergarten through eighth grade!
I grew up in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School. I have my BS in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa. Go Hawks! I have my MA in Elementary and International Education, plus my ELL Endorsement, from the University of Alabama.
I have three nephews and one niece who live in Creston. They keep me very busy. I also love photography, biking, soccer, and my yellow lab named Gordita. I live in Norwalk with my husband, Dave. His 14 year old hangs out with us on the weekends. We like to go camping in the summer, and watch movies in the winter.
My name is Jodi Larson, and I have worked in Des Moines Public Schools for 20+ years. I am from Ankeny and currently live there with my husband and son. I love learning as much as teaching and have earned a B.S. in PK-8 from Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, GA, a M.S. in Educational Leadership from Drake University, and a reading endorsement from Viterbo University. In my spare time, I read, play with my dogs, garden, and enjoy my houseboat. I am happy to be part of the Phillips’ family and look forward to another school year!
Hello! My name is Ryan McNulty and I am the primary 5th grade band teacher at our East Side elementary schools (including Phillips!). Every day, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help young musicians grow and begin to develop a life-long love of music! Prior to beginning this position in 2017, I taught 5-12 band for two years in Sully, Iowa. I hold a Bachelor of Music Education from Drake University and a Master of Music from the University of Illinois.
When I’m not at school, I enjoy playing my trumpet in many local groups, bicycling, and spending time with my wife and our corgi, Chance.
My name is Elizabeth Moldovan and I am a graduate of Drake University and Morningside College. I hold degrees in Music Education and Special Education. I have taught a in a variety of settings and am thrilled to be teaching at Phillips! I love Des Moines and am so thankful for the community we have here.
I have worked for DMPS for 5 years and am from the East side of Des Moines. I still live on the East side with my wife and two kids. In my spare time, I go to the lake to boat and fish. I like to watch car shows and working on stuff.
My name is Nick Quinlan and I’m 25 years old. I graduated from UNI in 2015 with my Bachelors in Physical Education. I have taught in Des Moines Public School District for 3 years and this is my second year at Phillips. I am married to my wonderful wife, Hannah, and we have two little boys, Brooks who is 2 and Boyd who is not even a month old yet. Outside of teaching P.E, I coach high school girls soccer at Bondurant High School. I love being on the field both playing and coaching. For fun I hang out with my family, read, binge watch tv shows, and play video games. Fun facts about me are that I have never broken a bone, and I can’t snap my fingers.
My husband and I have a busy family life with two daughters who are involved in many activities. Traveling to watch and cheer them on are some of my favorite moments right now. I graduated from Iowa State University in 1999 with my undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education and in 2008 with my Masters in Education and K-8 Reading Endorsement. Go Cyclones! I’ve taught at Phillips since 2000 in a variety of settings from K-5th special education, 3rd grade, 1st grade, reading and math interventionist and now as an instructional coach. Besides spectating at my girls’ events, I love to watch ISU games, go boating and reading books.
